Order of Worship

Welcome

Hymn of Praise

God of the Ages” verses 1-3, Performed by First Plymouth Church (Lincoln, Nebraska) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVmfwqMqRmQ

Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;

thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Offertory Prayer

God of redemption and new life, we focus once more this day on the greatest gift ever given – Jesus, our Savior. As he was baptized by John in the Jordan, we were able to share in his baptism and receive the promise of sharing in Jesus’ resurrection. As we leave a painful year behind and look with hope to the new year ahead, help us to live and give of ourselves as those who know every day what a great gift we have been given. May it move us to give our whole selves more freely! In the name of Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, we pray! Amen.

A big thank you to everyone who has been able to financially support the church with their tithe or offering during this time of pandemic and economic recession.

Baptism Covenant, Renunciation of Sin and Confession of Faith

On behalf of the whole Church, I ask you: Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin?

I do.

Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves?

I do.

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord,

in union with the Church which Christ has opened

to people of all ages, nations, and races?

I do.

Benediction

Go now, and live in the spirit of your baptism, even when you are led into dark and difficult places. With repentance and trust, give yourselves to God, And with reflection and prayer, strengthen yourselves against the ways of the tempter.

May God embrace you in tender and lasting love. May Christ be beside you in times of struggle and doubt. And may the Holy Spirit guide you back to the path whenever you stray now and always. Amen.

During these unique times, I am deeply thankful each of you has joined us in this very special way to gather and worship the Lord our God.

In Christ, Pastor Abe Zimmerman
